Catch up on all of the latest WTA Wimbledon action with Heavyâs day six recap & highlights.
Saturday’s WTA action from SW19 saw two former Wimbledon champions eliminated in the third round.
While the top two seeds of the day, Iga Åwiatek and Mirra Andreeva emerged victorious from their respective matches, 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora KrejÄÃková both saw their 2025 runs come to an end.
On Court 1, KrejÄÃková took an early lead over World No. 10 Emma Navarro, who entered Saturday’s match as the highest-ranked American still in contention on the WTA side. Despite that, in the second and third sets, KrejÄÃková appeared to be battling an injury that significantly hindered her level of play.
The longer the match went, the more KrejÄÃková seemed to struggle, with 17 unforced errors in the second set and 23 in the third set. Navarro, on the other hand, put forth a defensively sound performance, winning five of six potential break points en route to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.
According to Wimbledon’s IBM stats, Navarro has logged the fewest unforced errors of any WTA singles player this tournament.
Over on Court 2, another former Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina was upset by No. 23 seed Clara Tauson in straight sets (7-6, 6-3). While tennis icon Martina Navratilova believed that with a number of top seeds out Rybakina may be a favorite to go all the way, the 2022 champ came up short.
The loss makes it two and a half years now since Rybakina was in a Grand Slam final, however, on the flip side, Clara Tauson now climbs to No. 19 in the WTA live rankings ahead of a match with Iga Åwiatek tomorrow.
Top-10 Seeds Åwiatek and Andreeva Cruise to the Round of 16
While two former champions were eliminated on Saturday, top-10 seeds Iga Åwiatek and Mirra Andreeva had no trouble securing their spots in the Round of 16.
On Centre Court, Åwiatek faced off with American veteran Danielle Collins. While Åwiatek entered Saturday’s match with a 7-2 lead in the head-to-head, Collins won their most recent meeting in Rome in straight sets.
Despite that, Åwiatek, who is still looking for her first career Wimbledon title, was able to cruise past Collins in straight-sets (6-2, 6-3).
Over on Court 1, World No. 7 Mirra Andreeva managed to secure a big straight-set win over surging American Hailey Baptiste (6-1, 6-3), securing her place in the fourth round.
With the win, Andreeva has now reached the Round of 16 for the second time in her short career, rebounding from her first-round elimination at last year’s tournament.
