The New York Yankees are running out of time to make any more moves ahead of the MLB trade deadline on July 31, 2025. Once the clock strikes 6 p.m. ET on July 31, the trade window will have passed for the Yankees and other MLB teams to strike a deal.
There are plenty of Yankees rumors on moves the team could make in the next 24 hours. Following the acquisition of Ryan McMahon, the Yankees’ attention could turn to bolstering the team’s pitching.
The Athletic’s Jim Bowden offered 10 bold predictions for the MLB trade deadline and one involves New York making an interesting deal. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen could be headed to the Gotham City, per Bowden.
“The Yankees will add Zac Gallen from the Diamondbacks,” Bowden predicted in a July 29, story titled, “MLB trade deadline cheat sheet: Top storylines, bold predictions, best-available players.”
Let’s explore the latest Yankees rumors as the MLB trade deadline nears.
The Yankees Predicted to Land Diamondbacks SP Zac Gallen in MLB Trade Deadline Move
Gallen is on a one-year, $13.5 million contract with the Diamondbacks. The right-handed pitcher was named an All-Star in 2023 posting a career-high 220 strikeouts with a 17-9 record.
It has not been an ideal 2025 for Gallen as the pitcher has a 7-12 record with a 5.60 ERA, the worst of his career. Bowden predicts the Yankees are going to be buyers at the deadline.
“The Yankees solved their third-base situation with the trade for Ryan McMahon, then added infielder Amed Rosario, who provides versatility and a good bat versus lefties (.829 OPS),” Bowden detailed. “Now, they are focused on acquiring a starting pitcher and a reliever or two.
“They will not trade outfielder Spencer Jones or shortstop George Lombard Jr., but are open-minded about swapping their other top prospects in the right deal.”
Yankees Rumors: New York Is Interested in Pirates All-Star Pitcher Paul Skenes
All indications are the Yankees remain active with the trade deadline fast approaching. New York Post’s Jon Heyman provided an overview of the latest Yankees trade talks.
Perhaps the most notable nugget is the Yankees kicking the tires on a potential blockbuster trade for Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Paul Skenes, a move described as unlikely.
“The Mets and Yankees could look for rotation depth,” Heyman wrote in a July 29, story titled, “Mets outfielder search has interesting wrinkle with Guardians’ popular trade chip Steven Kwan.” “They called on Joe Ryan and MacKenzie Gore, but neither seems likely to surrender the big-time prospects it would take to get either one.
“… The Yankees would likely only trade Spencer Jones if the Pirates reversed and listened to package for Paul Skenes. (Zero sign they will!) Though the Yankees were among teams to check on Oneil Cruz, he’s unlikely to be traded. Besides the untouchable iconic Skenes, the Yankees have interest in many Pirates (David Bednar, Mitch Keller, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Andrew Heaney),” Heyman added.
“The Yankees have seriously discussed Bednar, but there’s a real gap in talks. Santana was bad for the Yankees (and Mets), so he seems unlikely for them.”
