The New York Yankees are being linked to no shortage of players as MLB rumors heat up amid free agency. One potential area the Yankees could look to bolster this offseason is the team’s bullpen.
New York is predicted to make a big splash by poaching one of the San Diego Padres top pitchers. Sports Illustrated’s Will Laws and Nick Selbe offered MLB free agency predictions for the top players. The Yankees are predicted to land 2-time All-Star Robert Suarez and bring his hard-throwing ability to the team’s bullpen.
“Suarez turned in his second dominant season in a row as the Padres’ closer, posting a sub-3.00 ERA and FIP to go along with 40 saves in 70 appearances,” Laws and Selbe wrote in a November 7, 2025, story titled, “MLB Free Agent Rankings and Signing Predictions.”
“He throws hard, and while it’s possible teams are concerned about him maintaining that velocity into his late 30s, Suarez has produced enough that he’ll be among the most sought-after closers on the market after Diaz.”
Let’s dive into the latest Yankees rumors and Suarez’s potential fit in New York.
Potential Yankees Target RP Robert Suarez Is Predicted to Land a 5-Year, $46 Million Contract
Suarez is coming off back-to-back All-Star appearances as one of the top closers in the game. The pitcher followed up his 36-save campaign in 2024 with a career-high 40 saves in 2025.
Sports Illustrated has Suarez ranked as their No. 22 rated free agent. Suarez was previously on a five-year, $46 million contract with the Padres.
The relief pitcher is likely headed for a raise, whether it is with the Yankees or another club. Spotrac projects Suarez’s market value is a four-year, $67.3 million contract.
The Yankees Are Predicted to Have Splashy MLB Offseason
Whether it is landing Suarez or making other moves, the Yankees are not expected to have a quiet offseason. New York has decisions to make about several of their own key players.
Cody Bellinger is set to hit MLB free agency. New York has also been floated as a potential landing spot for Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker, which would likely mean the end of Bellinger’s time in Gotham City. MLB.com has the Yankees ranked third among the teams expected to have the splashiest offseason.
“Meanwhile, with their loss to the Blue Jays in the ALDS, the Yankees’ World Series title drought is now going on 16 seasons, the second-longest streak in franchise history,” MLB.com detailed in a November 9, story titled, “Here are the 5 biggest questions this offseason … and our predictions for each.”
“The Bronx Bombers are always operating with a win-now mindset, but as superstar slugger Aaron Judge prepares to enter his age-34 season, they face mounting pressure to capitalize on their captain’s prime.”
Yankees Rumors: An Aggressive Market Forming for Cody Bellinger With Dodgers Looming as Potential Landing Spot
As for Bellinger’s future, the World Series champs could come calling to land the star in free agency. The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty believes the Los Angeles Dodgers may pursue Bellinger.
“Expect the battle for Cody Bellinger to be more aggressive than many think, especially given the Los Angeles Dodgers need an outfielder and have a long history with him,” Kuty explained in a November 6, article titled, “Four Yankees offseason priorities, from Cody Bellinger to pitching to … Pete Alonso?” “Ultimately, we expect him to re-sign with the Yankees, where he was perhaps the MVP among everybody not named Aaron Judge.
“Bellinger provided a 125 OPS+, leadership and the ability to play four positions. He could wind up back in center field with the Yankees, who will likely not give Trent Grisham the qualifying offer.”
