The trade speculation surrounding the Texas Rangers‘ potential Hall of Famer Corey Seager came out of nowhere this week when Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Rangers are attempting to cut payroll this season, and that the Atlanta Braves were shockingly on Seager’s no-trade list.
Now, considering it’s MLB’s hot stove season, the rumors are piling in on where Corey Seager could potentially land in a huge trade, and inevitably, the New York Yankees popped up as a destination. And in case you forgot, the Yankees have a big hole at the shortstop position.

Massive Trade Idea Sends Corey Seager to the Yankees
Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer is the one who resurfaces the trade idea with his recent article about all the huge MLB stars that have heard their name in trade conversations over the last month, and then predicts that the Yankees would be the one to land Corey Seager.
Here’s why he believes the Rangers may listen to offers for Seager:
“To this end, it would make the most sense if the Rangers swapped Seager for a controllable arm who could further establish them as a pitching powerhouse in 2026, plus a well-regarded prospect who could one day take his spot as a lineup centerpiece.”
So, what would the Yankees have to give up? Like Rymer outlines, the Rangers would be asking for a lot in return, but New York has the capital for a potentially offseason-shaking trade. You would have to think the Yankees would include top prospect Spencer Jones, starting pitcher Will Warren (who is controllable for years to come), and maybe Jasson Dominguez.
It’s a big haul, but Seager is among the best shortstops in baseball, and New York could not figure it out last season with Anthony Volpe up the middle.
Will Warren made 33 starts this season and posted a 4.44 ERA in 162.1 innings. Spencer Jones appears to be MLB-ready, and Dominguez already has ample time at the big league level.

Corey Seager’s Career Is Backed By Several Accolades
Corey Seager is starting to establish himself as one of the most decorated MLB players in terms of accolades.
He is a five-time All-Star, two-time World Series MVP, three-time Silver Slugger, and Rookie of the Year.
The one draw is that he has not played in over 125 games in a season since 2022. In 2025, injuries limited Seager to just 102 games, but he posted a 151 OPS+ and smashed 21 home runs.
Seager signed a massive 10-year, $325 million deal before the 2022 season. That is the type of contract that very few teams can realistically take on, but New York is certainly one of them.
While Corey Seager is a long shot to be traded at this moment, it will be interesting to see how this storyline develops throughout the offseason, and if any additional reports come out from those surrounding the Rangers organization that suggest they would think about moving him.
