The New York Yankees are one of the Major League Baseball teams that are expected to be aggressive at the trade deadline. With just eight days until the deadline, New York has two huge needs: a third baseman and starting pitchers.
The Yankees have been tormented by starting rotation injuries this season, which has caused the team from the Bronx to rely heavily on arms like Cam Schittler and Will Warren. Now, the Yankees look up in the American League East to the Toronto Blue Jays. With World Series aspirations, if New York does not add a quality arm, they could be doomed and will likely be playing in the Wild Card round.
Yankees Could Add Adrian Houser Amid a White Sox Sell
If the Chicago White Sox decide to sell off their tradable assets, which everything points to them doing so, starter Adrian Houser is a very compelling name to keep an eye on. The New York Yankees should certainly consider calling the White Sox about one of their most productive starters and attempting to make a deal.
Houser has started just 10 games this season after being picked up by the White Sox in May, but over 62 innings, he has a 1.89 ERA and has only given up two home runs on the year.
ESPN.com recently came out with a “trade deadline tracker” piece, and included the White Sox and Houser as a team/name to watch for:
“Chicago’s Adrian Houser seems likely to move, as a second-tier starter who has performed well this season. The 32-year-old right-hander was released by the Rangers in May but has been very effective since joining the White Sox rotation, giving up only two homers in 62 innings and generating an ERA+ of 226. Nobody is taking those numbers at face value, but evaluators do view him as a market option. The White Sox also have some relievers worth considering,” wrote Buster Olney.
The Yankees have a dire need for a right-handed starter, as their best righty option is Marcus Stroman, who has battled injuries all season.
What Could the Yankees Give Up?
The New York Yankees have been pretty adamant on not giving up their top prospects, but in a deal like this, they likely wouldn’t have to. The Chicago White Sox are rebuilding and are in search of either young players with talent or mid-tier prospects. Houser is also on a minor league contract, which makes his 2025 campaign so far even more impressive, and he’s set to be a free agent in 2026, which drives the price down a bit.
A good package for Houser could include Ben Rice or Cam Schittler, and a prospect like Chase Hampton or Bryce Selvidge. A two-player deal would likely be what it costs to acquire the 32-year-old Houser, who is kind of having a career year.
Expect the Yankees to make a big splash as the deadline is just over a week away. They are firmly in the starting pitcher market, and for a team that doesn’t want to give up their top prospects, a guy like Houser should be on their radar as a quality arm to trade for.
