Bengals head coach Zac Taylor didnât mince words about his teamâs continued struggles.
âIâm sick after that loss,â Taylor said following Sundayâs 27-18 defeat to the Packers, which dropped Cincinnatiâs record to 2-4.
The Bengals managed just 268 total yards. By the time they finally found the end zone late in the third quarter, theyâd already trailed 10-0.
Overcoming the deficit proved futile.
âThe defense in the first half gave us a chance, and the offense had those four possessions that didnât generate any offense and give us a chance to take a lead or take a tie into halftime,â Taylor said. âSecond half, offense came out and I thought played well. Defense just couldnât quite get off the field.
âWhen we talk about complementary football, thatâs what we talk about. It wasnât overall good enough.â
Joe Flacco Heats Up After Slow Start
With Joe Flacco starting at quarterback just days after being acquired from the Browns via trade, the Bengalsâ offense took time to get going. Cincinnati opened the second half with a 17-play drive that encompassed more than 10 minutes and culminated with Flacco connecting with tight end Tanner Hudson for 2-yard touchdown to make it 10-7.
But Green Bay answered on its next possession, driving 66 yards in nine plays to take a 17-7 lead on Josh Jacobsâ 14-yard run.
The Bengals pulled back within a touchdown once more following a 45-yard field goal from Evan McPherson, but the slow start was too much to overcome.
Flacco finished with 219 yards and two touchdowns on 29-of-46 passing.
âGood to see pieces that we can lean into and continue to grow,â Taylor said. âBut losing this game on the road, thereâs no consolation there. We expected to win.â
Joe Burrow’s Timeline Still Murky
Cincinnati has been outscored 140-55 during its four-game losing streak, which began a week after quarterback Joe Burrow exited a 31-27 victory over the Jaguars with a toe injury.
Jake Browning started the next three games and struggled mightily. Browningâs eight interceptions are second-most in the NFL, trailing only Las Vegasâ Geno Smith (10).
After throwing for just 40 yards in the first half, Flacco went 21-of-30 for 179 yards the rest of the way. He is expected to remain the starter until Burrow is ready to return. Early estimates suggest Burrow could be back by Week 16, though FOX Sportsâ Jay Glazer has cast doubt on that timeline.
Either way, the Bengals are in a heap of trouble.
