One woman is dead and another is wounded after they were shot in a South Shore apartment late Friday, police said.
The women, 23 and 25, were in an apartment building in the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue when they were shot shortly before midnight, according to Chicago police. Responding officers found the door to the building open and the women inside with gunshot wounds.
The older woman was shot in the abdomen and leg and the younger woman was shot in both legs. They were both taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where the older woman was pronounced dead. The 23-year-old was listed in fair condition.
Police are speaking with a person of interest and detectives are investigating.
