OAKLAND — A man and woman have been charged with being part of a robbery crew that lured cannabis delivery drivers into thinking they were fulfilling legitimate orders, only to rob them at gunpoint upon arrive, court records show.
Jordan Cook and her boyfriend. Larue Henderson, were charged with conspiracy and robbery in federal court. The criminal complaint against them describes six similar armed robberies of cannabis delivery drivers this year, all in Berkeley, Hayward, or San Leandro. The modus operandi involved suspects using apps to place orders from cannabis dispensaries, then a gunman would carjack the drivers, taking their vehicle and the cannabis products within, according to the complaint.
Cook has been released from custody. Henderson is due for a detention hearing next week, court records show. Prosecutors say that when the couple’s Alameda apartment was searched back in May, authorities found “$10,000 worth of commercially packaged marijuana products,” and a gun in Cook’s possession that had been used in a March 20 nonfatal shooting of an attempted carjacking victim.
The biggest haul from any of the robberies was approximately $15,000 in cannabis, according to the complaint. Cook and Henderson — who are accused of conspiring with “at least” one other unnamed person — allegedly advertised marijuana for sale online around the time of some of the robberies.
In one March 18 incident that was typical of the pattern, a delivery driver was ordered out of the car at gunpoint in San Leandro, and the robber drove off in the delivery car, according to the complaint.
