Aug. 16-17: Festival of India, Assyrian food, Burlingame arts, Foster City carnival, Scotts Valley dogs, cars

There’s a jam-packed weekend of Bay Area festivals ahead. Among the highlights:


Festival of India: The 33rd annual FOG (Festival of Globe) celebration of Indian culture features entertainment, food, a Saturday dance competition, a two-day fair (mela) and the big Sunday parade. Assyrian Food Festival: Culinary treats from what’s called the cradle of civilization, along with live music, dancing, children’s activities and a Samovar Alley featuring teas, coffees and pastries at this 31st annual event. Foster City Summer Days: This festival at Leo Ryan Park offers carnival rides, car show, entertainment, crafts and community booths, food and beverage stands and a Rubber Ducky Scavenger Hunt. Admission is free; tickets required for rides. Scotts Valley Art, Wine and Beer Festival: Fine art, food, live music, kids’ activities, wine and beer. On Saturday there’s a Cops ‘n’ Rodders car show; Sunday is Dog Day. Details: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday; Skypark, Scotts Valley; free admission; www.svartfestival.com.

Boss of the Sauce: Little Italy San Jose’s pasta-eating festival and sauce competition returns Sunday, with AYCE pasta for $25. Eight South Bay restaurants will make their best red sauce — for the crowd of eaters and for the Boss of the Sauce competition. Details: Noon-4 p.m. at the Museum Piazza, 323 W. St. John St..
