As expected, Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze will sit out the season finale.
Odunze is inactive for the Bears’ Week 18 game Sunday against the Lions at Soldier Field. He returned to practice Friday for the first time since Dec. 12 and was technically questionable to play. Still, he wasn’t able to commit to returning even for the Bears’ first playoff game next week.
Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo won’t play, either, after hurting his knee and quad last week. He was limited in practice all w2eek. He’ll be replaced by Theo Benedet, who has seven starts this year.
Defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is out with a concussion. Quarterback Case Keenum, linebacker Ruben Hyppolite and Nick McCloud are also scratches.
Odunze has been dealing with various chronic foot issues all year, one of which was exacerbated during the team’s win in Philadelphia on Nov. 28. He expected to play against the Browns on Dec. 14 and was made active for the game — but felt pain during warmups.
“There’s been some up-and-down weeks with what I’ve been dealing with,” Odunze said Friday.
Rest is the best treatment for his feet, he said. He doesn’t expect to need surgery. Odunze is 10 yards shy of the Bears’ receiving yards lead held by DJ Moore.
