Browns Coach Kevin Stefanski Makes Feelings Clear on Jerry Jeudy

The Cleveland Browns suffered a lopsided loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, and star receiver Jerry Jeudy struggled.

Shedeur Sanders threw a nice deep ball to Jeudy in the endzone, which fell right in his hands. Yet, Jeudy couldn’t haul it in, and to make matters worse, the ball bounced into the hands of Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson for an interception.

It was a costly mistake from Jeudy, which could have given the Browns a spark. So, on Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about the play and if he was going to hold Jeudy accountable, as he had made his feelings clear.

“Yeah, I think our players understand this game,” Stefanski said on Monday. “It’s a 60-minute game, and there’s plays in every game that you’re going to want back. From a coaching perspective, from a playing perspective, all we ask and what our guys give is everything they got. Not to say that we’re going to be perfect, but we’ll just keep fighting when there’s time on the clock.”

Jeudy finished the game recording 2 receptions for 22 yards. He’s failed to find the endzone in four of his last five games, as it’s been a disappointing season for Cleveland’s No. 1 receiver.

Jeudy has recorded 40 receptions for 519 yards and 2 touchdowns this season.

Shedeur Sanders Opens Up On Jeudy’s Error

Sanders threw a near-perfect throw to Jeudy in the endzone, but the Browns’ No. 1 receiver couldn’t haul it in, and let it go right to Johnson for an interception.

Following the loss, Sanders was asked about the play and tried to prop up Jeudy, and wanted to move on from it.

“It’s going to happen. It is what it is. I’m not one to ever kick somebody down when he’s down,” Sanders said. “He understands it’s a big play and I’m sure he’s hard on himself, so it’s no need for me to be extra and do that.”

Jeudy, meanwhile, agreed that he should have caught the ball.

“I think Shedeur threw a good pass,” Jeudy said. “It was just a good football play overall by (Johnson), but that’s something I expect to come down with.”

Had Jeudy caught the pass, the Browns would have trailed 21-10. So, whether or not that would have changed the outcome is unlikely, but it would have helped Sanders and Jeudy’s chemistry.

Browns Coach Expects Sanders to Learn From INTs

In the Browns’ loss to the Bears on Sunday, Sanders threw three interceptions.

It was a disappointing performance from Sanders, but Stefanski is still confident in the rookie quarterback. The Browns’ head coach said those interceptions will be something Sanders learns from.

“I think you learn from all those, and at times you tip your cap to the defense and you say they made a play, and other times you talk to the quarterback, hey, could be footwork, could be who you’re keying, could be decision, all those things,” Stefanski added.

“So, I do think you have to give them credit and say that they’re making plays, but I think how we coach our guys is, ‘hey, next time we did it, here’s some things that we would do differently.’ But obviously that’s going against a good defense that takes the ball away. You know, you got to give them credit as well.”

Sanders will remain the starter for the rest of the season. Cleveland will host the Buffalo Bils on Sunday.
