Charges pending for man at Rosemont Blue Line who claimed: ‘There’s a bomb in this van’

A Bolingbrook man who falsely told a motorist there was a bomb in a van is facing possible felony charges after sparking an emergency response at the Rosemont Blue Line Tuesday, Rosemont police said.

Trains, which were bypassing the Rosemont station, 5801 N. River Rd., earlier, were back on the move after it was learned the threat was not legitimate, officials said.

The incident unfolded about 9:35 a.m. when a motorist was trying to park near a silver Sprinter van and a 55-year-old Bolingbrook man — who was on top of the van — told him: “Don’t park there because there’s a bomb in this van,” said Rosemont Police Lt. Joe Balogh.

The motorist told CTA staffers who called 911.

Responding officers checked things out and decided to call a Chicago bomb squad technician, to be on the safe side.

Officers searched the van, which does not belong to the suspect, and didn’t see anything “crazy suspicious,” just a bunch of tools, said the lieutenant.

Police determined there was no bomb and the suspect was arrested. Charges, possibly felony, are pending for making a bomb threat.

The suspect allegedly also broke into a Ford Mustang, which had its doors unlocked,

It was not damaged and nothing was taken, said Balogh who added its owner did not want to press charges.

Shuttle bus service was implemented. Shuttle bus from O’Hare to Jefferson Park, said OEMC on X.
