Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid may have just spilled the beans when it comes to Travis Kelce’s eventual retirement news.
Reid chose to address the media on February 20, ahead of the 2026 NFL Combine and free agency. To no surprise, he was asked about Kelce’s retirement decision.
And Reid’s answer felt pretty revealing.
“No— There is communication, though, that’s the main thing,” Reid told a reporter after being asked if Kelce has indicated if he plans to retire.
“I’ve said this before; as long as there is communication, good,” the Chiefs HC continued. “That means people want to move forward, and I think that’s where Trav is. I’m not trying to put words in his mouth at all, and I’m trying to give him some space here. He’s been doing this a long time, and he can sort all that out as he goes forward. But we’re proceeding with that, and there is communication.”

If you’ve ever seen Reid do a press conference, you know that he generally doesn’t give up much information. And yet, on February 20, the veteran coach seemed to pretty much reveal that Kelce is expected to return in 2026.
Chiefs Kingdom agreed, as fans were quick to point out Reid’s telling comments on social media.
“HC Andy Reid says he doesn’t want to put words into Travis Kelce’s mouth… but there’s a lot of positive communication happening. Sounds to me like there’s a great chance he’ll be back for the 2026 season!” One popular KC fan X post with over 1,000 likes read.
“I’m taking that as one more season,” another Chiefs fan reacted.
While a third Kansas City supporter said, “It’s pretty clear they’re in negotiations.”
Needless to say, Reid’s words quickly spread like wildfire, as the Chiefs and NFL community gave their respective takes on the update. But it is important to note that nothing has been finalized yet.
It feels like a matter of time before the big Chiefs, Kelce retirement news. Not the announcement where he calls it a career, but the 2026 news where he and KC agree to a one-year contract extension.
At this point, it’d be surprising if Kelce decided to hang it up before 2027.
