Disturbing Jordan Spieth Video Remerges as PGA Tour Golfer Admits Regret

It is the offseason for the majority of PGA Tour golfers, but Jordan Spieth is going viral for a golf shot the star hit years ago. Amid the celebration of Halloween, social media was buzzing about some of the scariest shots in golf.

A viral video of Spieth’s cliff shot at Pebble Beach reemerged as fans are still shocked the golfer risked his life in the epic moment. The shot came during the 2022 Pebble Beach Pro-Am as Spieth attempted a shot off the cliff of the par-4 eighth hole. Pebble Beach has since taken measures to make sure this is not even possible, but Spieth still gave us one of the most improbable shots in golf.

Spieth’s caddie Michael Greller implored Spieth not to take the shot. The golfer did not take his caddie’s advice, and Spieth later admitted he probably should have simply taken the extra stroke rather than attempt the shot off the cliff.

“Looking back now, it was not smart,” Spieth admitted in Feb. 2022, per Golf Digest. “I wish I hadn’t done it. In fact, I regret doing it,”

Here’s what you need to know about the cliff shot that could have left Spieth seriously injured.

Jordan Spieth Admitted Regret for Viral Golf Shot Off of a Cliff

Plenty of time has passed since Spieth tested fate with the shot. Spieth later elaborated on the decision and why it is not a moment he will be trying again anytime soon.

“I think I saved a stroke,” Spieth said in Feb. 2023, recalling the scary shot, per ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti. “Does the reward outweigh the risk? Not if you think the risk was dying. But I also, I felt I could whack it over the water with a 7-iron and get it up near the green. And I thought up near the green would be easier than hitting a 7-iron from 10 yards back. And, yeah, I think now knowing my son a lot better, he was really young at the time, I may not have hit that shot.

“… I think I really messed things up by hitting that because I don’t really know the solution. Other than shave it all the way so that, no matter what, it goes right in, and it has less of a chance of stopping short. I don’t really know. Because you can’t put a fence there, because your second shot will hit the fence.”

Jordan Spieth’s Prediction for PGA Tour: ‘Next Year’s Going to Be a Really Good Year for Me’

The cliff video may be making the rounds, but the moment happened in 2022. Spieth’s attention is now on getting healthy and attempting to return to top form in 2026.

“Next year’s going to be a really good year for me, I can feel it,” Spieth noted in July, per Yahoo Sports. “It’s all coming along. I’ll be healthy, and just structurally putting, the mechanics are all getting really, really close.

“One good offseason should get me nailed down to where I could be as good as I’ve been. That’s my goal.”
