Fire in Alameda burns residence, detached property, but doesn’t spread

ALAMEDA — A fire damaged a home here on Monday, but firefighters kept it from spreading to neighboring houses, officials officials said.

The blaze happened in the 3200 block of Otis Drive about 11:45 a.m. and damaged a pair of detached garages and  backyard sheds, Alameda Fire Department spokesperson Kevin Tidwell said.

Fire crews saw smoke and fire burning in the backyard of the residence when they arrived, and that blaze spread to the detached garages and backyard sheds.

“The way the area is set up, there were two properties right behind” the one where the fire started, Tidwell said. He said crews kept the blaze from spreading to those houses.
