First look inside Terrifier maze coming to Universal’s Horror Nights

An evil clown turned serial killer from the “Terrifier” slasher film franchise will bring one of the grisliest and goriest mazes ever created to this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The Terrifier haunted house will be part of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood on select nights Sept. 4 to Nov. 2.

Halloween Horror Nights creative director John Murdy offered a behind-the-scenes tour of the new Terrifier haunted house located on the H Lot next to the new Poltergeist maze.

The Terrifier slasher film franchise stars Art the Clown as a demonic killer who stalks, terrorizes and kills his victims.

The Terrifier maze will be like the films —extremely gory with grisly kills. Art the Clown is known for torturing his victims before killing them in increasingly cruel and sinister ways. The Terrifier maze will gleefully display many of his most iconic kills. You will leave covered in blood — or at least what you think is blood.

“We’re making it rain blood,” Murdy said.

Consider this your spoiler alert. What follows is a scene-by-scene preview of the Terrifier maze coming to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Preshow

A news report playing outside the funhouse entrance to the Terrifier maze will warn visitors about a murder suspect leaving a crime scene dressed in a black-and-white clown costume carrying a black plastic garbage bag over his shoulder.

Art the Clown will appear from a side entrance and walk through the maze queue — honking his horn in the face of visitors nervously waiting in line to enter the Terrifier maze.

Funhouse

Headlines will cover the walls inside the funhouse detailing the crimes of Art the Clown.

A cheap store-bought Art the Clown animatronic figure will serve as a distraction to the real scare — Art attacking you with his signature weapon, a table leg covered in screws, knives and forks.

The final hit in the funhouse entryway will come from a huge Art the Clown puppet.

Sawed in Half

Art the Clown will be sawing victims in half in several different ways — leaving the bodies splayed open.

Visitors will get sprayed with “blood” — the first of several bloody encounters in the maze.

Hacksaw Kill

The Terrifier maze will recreate the most notorious kill from the first movie — the Hacksaw Kill.

Art the Clown will be up on stage sawing a victim in half. Be prepared to get sprayed by blood once again.

Barrels of Fun

Art the Clown will butcher a character named Allie in one of the most iconic kills from “Terrifier 2.”

Art will pour bleach into Allie’s wounds after ripping off her arms.

The smell of bleach will fill the room after Art fires a Tommy Gun at several barrels of the powerful disenfectant. Expect to get sprayed by “bleach” as you pass through this scene.

Final Girl

Sienna Shaw, the Final Girl from the Terrifier franchise, will take on Art the Clown in a climactic battle.

A Final Girl is typically the last surviving character in a horror movie who confronts and defeats the killer — even if Art isn’t the least bit worried about Sienna in this instance.

Dolly Molly

The demonic entity known as the Little Pale Girl from “Terrifier 2” will provide a distraction in the Dolly Molly scene.

Art the Clown will appear with a knife to slash the mouth of a victim and rip his head off. Be prepared to get sprayed with blood once again.

Clown Cafe

Visitors will encounter the Clown Cafe as they exit the funhouse and head into a carnival scene from “Terrifier 2” where Art the Clown has killed several fairgoers.

A box of Art Crispies will stand next to a bowl of cereal filled with razor blades, broken glass and worms in a direct lift from “Terrifier 2.”

A hat box filled with a beating heart in another nod to the second film will spray blood on anybody who gets too close.

Art will emerge from the Clown Cafe food truck with an electric meat carver.

Naughty Potty

Horror Nights has done some disgusting bathroom scenes in the past — but nothing quite like this.

The Naughty Potty scene will recreate signature bathroom kills from all three movies in the Terrifier franchise.

Original protagonist Vicky Heyes will make an appearance from behind a bathroom mirror.

Art the Clown will be writing his name on a wall before he comes to get you.

Chamber of Horrors

The Chamber of Horrors won’t recreate any scenes from the Terrifier franchise.

“This is an idea that I’ve had for a long time,” Murdy said. “I’ve always wanted to do this scare and Terrifier provided the perfect vehicle.’

Horror Nights fans will be familiar with crowd control employees found in every maze who wave flashlights to keep traffic moving.

This time the Horror Nights employee dressed in black will lift his hood to reveal he’s really Art the Clown.

Behind the Scenes

Horror Nights visitors will appear to stumble into an employee break area behind the scenes of the Terrifier maze.

A supervisor killed by Art the Clown has been impaled to the wall with a knife.

Things get a little meta when you turn the corner and spot an Art the Clown “scareactor” on a break with his mask off and earbuds in while scrolling through messages on his smartphone.

The real Art will sneak up behind the employee and slash his throat from ear to ear.

Christmas

Art the Clown will play Santa Claus in a scene from “Terrifier 3” at a shopping mall during the Christmas season.

Art has killed the real Santa and his elves — using their severed heads as Christmas tree toppers and their intestines to decorate the trees.

Santa Art will once again make it rain blood when he appears with a chainsaw.

Final Scene

Art will return with his iconic table leg to finish off any surviving visitors in the warehouse where he makes all his weapons.

The final final scare will take place just as you exit the maze and encounter Art with a clown horn and a butcher knife.

In the Park

Art the Clown won’t be confined to the Terrifier maze during Halloween Horror Nights.

You might spot Art staring at you from an outdoor dining table in Universal Plaza or following you into a store — something no other scareactors can do.

Think of it as a game of Where’s Waldo with Art the Clown appearing anywhere and anytime he wants.

Murdy hopes the unpredictable appearances will make long-time Horror Nighters uncomfortable and uneasy.

“We have a very loyal fan base that comes back year after year,” Murdy said. “The only disadvantage to that is they know every trick in the book that we do. So what can we do to put them on edge? Art’s the perfect vehicle to do that.”
