High noon at Halas Hall as Bears scuffle with each other throughout 2-hour practice

The Bears’ two-hour practice midday practice Tuesday was every bit as feisty as expected and had several scuffles. As soon as it started, it was obvious the defense was eager for confrontation.

“That’s what we should practice like every day,” cornerback Tyrique Stevenson said.

Cornerback Nahshon Wright added that coach Ben Johnson “let us know today is the day to prove it,” and that this was the type of practice he wanted.

Within the first 45 minutes, a minor scrap between second-stringers was halted, then a bigger incident happened in which wide receiver Rome Odunze lost his helmet as a defensive player had him by the jersey before it was broken up.

Running back Roschon Johnson and safety Jonathan Owens got into it after a play in which Owens punched the ball loose once Johnson was already down, and Johnson swung at him before Johnson lunged at him and took him to the ground.

Toward the end of practice, running back D’Andre Swift got into it with defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo and threw the ball in his facemask after the play, prompting a coach to yell at him to knock it off.

Left tackle Braxton Jones tangled with defensive end Austin Booker, and Odeyingbo and defensive tackle Gervon Dexter got in on it as well, and Dexter shoved Jones to the ground.
