Jimmy Butler Gets Honest About His Role With The Warriors

After losing his ‘joy’ in Miami, Jimmy Butler found his way to the Golden State Warriors at last season’s trade deadline. Butler is entering his first full season in the Bay Area and has no qualms about his role with the Warriors.

In an interview with Ann Killion of The San Francisco Chronicle, Butler opened up about being the No. 2 option behind Steph Curry. He has no problem with it because winning is more important to him. He’s even prepared to relinquish that role if it is what’s needed to succeed.

“I have no ego. I’m not the number one option, I’m great with that. I know my role, I know who I am as a person, I know who I am as a basketball player, as a businessman. I know my role. What do y’all need me to do? Dray, Steph, Steve, what do you need me to do? That’s part of being a vet. That’s part of winning. But more importantly, that’s part of knowing that ego gets you nowhere. Ego is the enemy,” Butler said.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr is very happy with Butler because he doesn’t need to make a lot of adjustments. The six-time NBA All-Star just fits in Kerr’s system almost seamlessly. It was evident after the trade since they finished the regular season with a 23-8 record since acquiring “Jimmy Buckets.”

Jimmy Butler Upgraded to Probable for Opening Night

The Golden State Warriors are set to face the Los Angeles Lakers on October 21 at the Crypto.com Arena. The Warriors had some injury problems during the preseason, including Jimmy Butler, who had a minor ankle issue.

Speaking to reporters after practice a day before opening night, coach Steve Kerr revealed that Butler and Jonathan Kuminga are probable against the Lakers. They are likely to get upgraded before tip-off, while Moses Moody, Alex Toohey and De’Anthony Melton are all listed as out.

The Warriors have a busy opening week with three games in four days, which could take a toll on their aging stars. It’s unclear if Kerr will make a few adjustments for their first set of a back-to-back against the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers on October 23 and 24, respectively.

New Off-Court Investment for Butler

Things are looking pretty good for Jimmy Butler on and off the court. He has his “joy” back in Golden State, while his new venture was made public over the weekend. The Warriors star is the new minority investor for the NWSL club San Diego Wave FC.

“Soccer has been a passion of mine for a long time, and being part of the game in a meaningful way has always been a dream. San Diego has become a city close to my heart, and I’m proud to invest in a Club that is pushing boundaries, building something lasting, and setting a new standard for what women’s sports can be both on and off the pitch,” Butler said in a statement.

The 36-year-old forward is a huge fan of the sport and is even good friends with several stars like Neymar and Paul Pogba. He’s also not the first NBA star to invest in a football club. Other minority owners in the NWSL include Kevin Durant, James Harden, Grant Hill, Tony Parker and Magic Johnson, as per ESPN.
