A man was shot and killed by Highland Park police officers early Friday after he charged at them with a knife during a wellbeing check, police said.
The officers were called to check on the man around 4:55 a.m. and found him in the roadway in the 900 block of Half Day Road, according to the north suburban police department. The man “quickly charged at officers with a knife,” and the officers fatally shot him.
The stretch of Half Day Road between Compton and Greenway avenues remained closed Friday morning, police said.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting.
