MAGA Congresswoman Accuses GOP Senators of Blocking Peace Plan For Personal Stock Market Profits, “It’s Happening Even Though It’s Super Illegal”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that the United States “authored” a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. On social media, Rubio wrote that the plan “is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine.”

U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD), who was on a call with Rubio and a group of bipartisan lawmakers earlier this weekend, said Rubio suggested that the peace plan was a Russian initiative.

As seen below, from the Halifax International Security Forum on Saturday, Rounds said of his phone call with Rubio: “I think he made it very clear to us that we are the recipients of a proposal that was delivered to one of our representatives. It is not our recommendation, it is not our peace plan.”

Rounds added: “It was a proposal that was received and as an intermediary, we have made arrangements to share it. And we did not release it. It was leaked. It was not released by our member or our representatives.”

MAGA-aligned Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) responded to Rounds’ comments on social media by accusing GOP lawmakers like Rounds of having ulterior motives — personal stock market profits — driving their Ukraine support: “GOP Senators trying to destroy Trump’s peace deal between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine who have stock portfolios heavily invested into the defense contracting industry is a prime example of why insider-trading cannot continue in Congress and yes, it’s happening even though it’s super illegal.”

(NOTE: Luna has been pushing for legislation to ban lawmakers from owning or trading stocks.)

Rounds’ assertion supports the convictions of many of the plan’s critics, who view it largely as a capitulation to Russia, with Ukraine losing both territory and the opportunity to join NATO.

The New York Times reports that State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott tried to squelch rumors that the U.S. is taking dictation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying: “As Secretary Rubio and the entire Administration has consistently maintained, this plan was authored by the United States.”
