Man charged after $1 million worth of stolen shoes found at West Side warehouse

A Chicago man is facing charges after $1 million in stolen shoes were found in a warehouse on the West Side.

Erick Lujano Bautista, 26, was arrested last Friday and charged with felony theft, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Last month, investigators learned there were a large number of stolen Nike shoes being stored in a warehouse in the 1500 block of South Western Avenue and later found out the space was being subleased by Lujano Bautista, officials said.

Police searched the warehouse Friday and found stolen Nike and New Balance shoes worth more than $1 million. Investigators determined that Lujano Bautista was not an authorized seller of the Nike or New Balance brands.

Lujano Bautista was ordered released at a detention hearing Sunday.

He is expected to appear in court Friday.
