New Napa hotel and resort along Napa Valley Vine Trail set to open next summer

A timeframe has been announced for the opening of a Napa hotel and resort project that broke ground a year ago.

The Elene, a 50 guest-room property with dining and other amenities, is slated to open late next summer, according to developers Mosaic Hotel Collection and Napa Valley Land Company.

The Elene will include a full-service restaurant and all-day café, a heated 25-yard pool, spa and sauna garden, fitness studio, a cycling program and bike barn, according to the Nov. 14 announcement. Four of its 50 guest rooms will be suites. Room rates will be finalized after the market has been assessed and will be released closer to the opening date, a spokeswoman for The Elene said Friday.

The name “Elene” is Greek for shining light, which “speaks to the hotel’s expansive views and the way guests will experience the full spectrum of light from morning to dusk while on property, symbolizing new beginnings and endless possibilities,” according to Mill Valley-based Mosaic.

Mosaic developed the concept for the hotel and resort and will manage the property, CEO Tim Harmon told the Business Journal last year. In that same interview, he declined to disclose the project cost, but said although the hotel is aimed at high-end travelers, it also aims to serve the entire Napa community.

“Rather than resorts that feel very private and isolated, our goal is for The Elene to be a community gathering hub and a home base for those exploring Napa to connect deeper with their surroundings,” Harmon said at the time. “The Elene’s … location along the Napa Valley Vine Trail was a huge initial draw for us, as we envision the resort acting as a bridge to the larger community.”

The walking and biking trail system spans 47 miles through Napa’s wine country.

Specifics about The Elene’s upscale restaurant had not been finalized last year and that remains the case.

The Elene’s spokeswoman said the name of the restaurant and chef is expected to be announced early next year.

The Elene also will offer a variety of public on-site dining options, including a house bar and a café, according to the release.

Greg Pitts, owner of St. Helena-based Napa Valley Land Company, said The Elene is committed to minimizing environmental impact and protecting its surrounding landscape. That includes a water recycling and solar program, and other initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, including incentives to walk and bike to the property, he said in November 2024.

“The opportunity to develop a new luxury resort set in the middle of the Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve is rare and will likely never happen again,” Pitts said.

The Elene’s builder is Santa Rosa-based Nordby Construction.

Napa Valley-based Signum Architecture is the designer on the project; New York City-based Parts and Labor Design is overseeing the interiors; and San Francisco-based Surfacedesign is designing the landscape.

The Elene will be located three miles from Yountville and five miles from downtown Napa.
