Owners voted Tuesday to allow NFL players to play flag football in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, pending agreements with the NFLPA, International Federation of American Football and the Games themselves.
“I know first-hand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “We are thrilled that they will now have that chance.”
The Olympics will feature six teams made up of 10 players apiece, who will play in the five-on-five flag football game. Each country will be allowed to select one player per NFL roster after a tryout or qualification process. NFL players born in a foreign country can play for their home country.
The Olympics will run from July 14-30, 2028. Training camps typically begin the last week of July.
