Packers’ Micah Parsons Issues Apology ‘For My Actions’ in Week 3 Loss

There were plenty of reasons that the Packers lost for the first time this season, 13-10, in Cleveland in Week 3 on Sunday, and while injuries and the offense’s inability to contain the Browns’ pass rush–coupled with an untimely blocked field-goal try–all probably loom as the biggest factors, star pass-rusher Micah Parsons wants the blame placed on him.

Though the Packers’ defense suffocated the Browns for the first 56 minutes of the game, allowing those final 13 points all in the last 3:38 of the gamewas unacceptable. And Parsons says it’s on him.

“Just take accountability when it’s there,” Parsons said after the game. “Myself, I take accountability. Two offsides penalties is unacceptable for myself, and for this team. Just things that we shouldn’t be doing, I shouldn’t be doing, just unacceptable. And I fully apologize for my actions.”

Micah Parsons: ‘It’s My Mistake’

The Packers allowed just 221 yards of offense to the Browns, which surely should have been enough for a victory. But Cleveland’s defense was equally stout, holding Green Bay to 230 yards offensively. The Packers closed with an interception on a bad throw by Jordan Love and the blocked field goal, though, in their final two drives.

Those cost Green Bay the game.

But Parsons also felt that the defense became too gamble-oriented down the stretch of the game.

“It’s my mistake. We just made mistakes,” Parsons said. “We tried to end the game in one play and sometimes it bites you. You never know how thing happen. But at the end of the day, the nature of the game is finish. And we didn’t finish today. And there’s not one person, or one group, like I said.

“For my actions, I apologize and I gotta do a better job. That’s how I look at it. I gotta make sure I am penalty-free and I do  it to the best of my ability in the game.”

Packers Did Not ‘Finish’ in Week 3

Parsons also said that the Packers can’t get accustomed to putting forth partial efforts. Perhaps the adrenaline from starting the first two weeks against top NFC foes Detroit and Washington led to some stagnation against a Cleveland team that won three games last year.

No matter whether that was the case, the Packers can’t let it happen again.

“It’s like a movie sometimes, how football works,” Parsons said. “I think, towards the end of the game they played better than us. We gotta play all four quarters as a team—not one individual, not one specific group, as a team.

“We have to finish games. We had the chance, multiple chances, to win the game. We didn’t do that, so we have to come back with the details. We can’t just play the first half, we can’t just play the third quarter.”
