A car that ran a red light caused a wreck that left a 18-year-old woman dead and a19-year-old man injured in a crash Thursday night in the Loop.
Around 11:30 p.m., a red Jeep Wrangler was going west in the first block of West Lower Wacker Driver when the driver tried to make a left turn and was struck by a black 2004 Pontiac GTO that ran a red light and lost control, Chicago police said.
The passenger of the sedan, a 18-year-old woman, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with trauma to her body and was pronounced dead just after midnight, police said. Her name was not made public.
The driver, a 19-year-old man from Indiana, also suffered body trauma and was taken to Northwestern where he was in fair condition, officials said.
The two occupants of the SUV weren’t injured, authorities said.
No citations were issued.
