A person died after being hit by a car while riding a scooter in the Douglas neighborhood Friday, police said.
The unidentified woman was riding a scooter around 4:15 p.m. in the 3300 block of South King Drive when she was struck by a Jeep, police said. The woman was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Chicago police didn’t provide an exact age, nor did they say if she was an adult or a minor.
The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old woman, was cited for failure to avoid an accident.
Chicago police major accidents unit is investigating.
The crash comes one month after 15-year-old Violet Harris was killed in a hit-and-run in South Shore. Traumas related to e-scooters have increased in Chicago in recent years.
