Rams Urged to Trade for ‘Forgotten’ Former 1st-Rounder to Help Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams are talented but top-heavy in terms of proven options, specifically at wide receiver, and two of their current players are navigating injuries. As the 2025 trade deadline nears, a deal for Rashod Bateman of the Baltimore Ravens could work.

Baltimore is 1-5 and deadline with injuries on both sides of the ball, including to two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Rams, at 3-2, could be buyers at the trade deadline, with the Ravens on the seller’s end.

Puka Nacua is dealing with an ankle injury that is expected to sideline him at least for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In light of that, CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell suggested a trade for Bateman to cover the Rams’ bases as they look to have an extended playoff run at the end of this season. The 2025 NFL trade deadline is on November 4 and 4 p.m. ET.

This Heavy Sports trade proposal would send draft capital to the Ravens for Bateman.

Rams get:

  • Rashod Bateman

Ravens get:

  • 2026 fifth-round pick

“With Pro Bowl wide receiver Puka Nacua suffering an ankle injury in a Week 6 win against the Baltimore Ravens, it would be wise for Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead to bolster quarterback Matthew Stafford’s receiving core,” Podell wrote on October 15.

“Rashod Bateman (11 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in six games this season) has become a forgotten man in the 1-5 Baltimore Ravens’ offense, especially with Jackson sidelined. Snead should give the Ravens a call to see if they would be willing to exchange Bateman for a pick or two with their defense and offensive line in desperate need of a reboot.”

The Rams are not in dire need of receiver help, but Bateman could certainly do that.

Rams Have Depth at WR Behind Puka Nacua

Rams head coach Sean McVay has downplayed the severity of Nacua’s injury, but has acknowledged that the wideout’s physical playing style, the requirements of the position, and the nature of his injury are all factors, and that could include any trade scenario.

Bateman, 25, was the No. 27 overall pick of the 2021 draft. He has 11 receptions for 120 yards and 1 touchdown this season for the Ravens, and has a 149-2,043-14 line for his career.

The Rams still have Davante Adams, and Tutu Atwell returned to practice on Wednesday.

They can also utilize youngsters Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield more, even once Nacua returns to the field. But those two have combined for a 32-412-0 career line. A trade for Bateman would bring another element of versatility to the Rams’ offense.

Rashod Bateman Could Bring Versatility to Rams’ Offense

Bateman has experience operating out of the slot, and he has even factored into the return game for the Ravens.

The Ravens signed Bateman to an extension this past offseason.

However, his effort has also been questioned amid their quagmire campaign. A would not be surprising in that context, and the right offer could force their hand. Whether that will be at the trade deadline or from the Broncos remains to be seen.

The 2025 NFL trade deadline is on November 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
