Baseball fans can pay their respects to the late Ryne Sandberg during a free public event at Gallagher Way outside of Wrigley Field on Friday.
Sandberg’s funeral will be live streamed on the jumbo screen outside the stadium during the memorial from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The Hall of Famer, who played 15 seasons for the Cubs, died on July 28 after battling metastatic prostate cancer. He was 65.
In the days following Sandberg’s passing, fans gathered at Sandberg’s statue outside of Wrigley Field to honor him.
When is it?
The tribute will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Sandberg’s service will begin at 10 a.m.
Where can I watch?
Fans can gather outside of Wrigley Field at Gallagher Way on Friday to watch Sandberg’s private funeral service on the Gallagher Way video board.
For those who can’t make it in person, the services will be streamed online on the Marquee Sports Network app and broadcast on WGN 9. It will also be broadcast for radio listeners on 670 The Score, according to a Cubs spokesperson.
Do I need tickets?
While the funeral service is private, it will be streamed at the public tribute. No tickets are required.
How can I show support?
The Sandberg family has asked that fans bring nonperishable food items to the tribute, which will then be donated to Nourishing Hope and Most Blessed Trinity Food Pantry.
Attendees may also leave tributes at the statue outside the stadium.
Additionally, the Cubs will display Sandberg’s personal memorabilia collection, which has been added to the Cubs and Wrigley Field archives.
