A tornado watch is in effect for portions of northern Illinois until Monday morning, the National Weather Service reported.
A line of showers and strong thunderstorms entering the area has triggered the watch through 4 a.m. Monday for Kankakee, Grundy, LaSalle, Iroquois, Ford, Lee and Livingston counties, the weather service said.
The storms were expected to bring winds of up to 70 mph and potential hail, officials said.
Chicago and a majority of the suburbs remained in a limited thunderstorm risk area, but strong winds of up to 60 mph were still possible, officials said.
