When the NFL Draft ended Saturday night, the Bears set about negotiating undrafted free agent contracts and sending out tryout invitations for the team’s rookie minicamp at Halas Hall in two weeks.
The Bears have had some recent success in that department, landing backup quarterback Tyson Bagent as an undrafted free agent three years ago. Receiver Jahdae Walker was an undrafted free agent last year who caught six passes, including a touchdown against the Packers in December. Cornerback and special teams stalwart Josh Blackwell was an undrafted free agent signed by the Eagles who the Bears claimed in 2022.
Here’s a look at the Bears’ undrafted free agent moves, per sources:
• Louisville quarterback Miller Moss, who once backed up Caleb Williams when the two were at USC, is signing with the Bears. Moss threw for 2,679 yards and 16 yards last year after spending his first four seasons with the Trojans.
• Tulane cornerback KC Eziomume, who played in 11 games last year. He previously played at Albany and Alabama A&M.
• Wyoming guard Caden Barnett, who was a second-team all-Mountain West guard last year, is signing with the Bears as an undrafted free agent.
• Utah center Jaren Kump, who played in 59 games in a whopping six years with the Utes. He’s played center, guard and tackle.
• San Diego State kicker Gabriel Plascencia, who went 19-for-23 last year.
• Kennesaw State running back Coleman Bennett, who had 157 carries for 764 yards and 27 catches for 314 yards last year.
• Iowa tight end Hayden Large, who had eight catches for 52 yards last year.
• Wake Forest defensive tackle Jayden Loving, who had 44 tackles and three fumble recoveries last year.
• Oregon State safety Skyler Thomas, who led the Beavers with 78 tackles last year.
• Florida State receiver Squirrel White, who had only five catches for 52 yards in 10 games last year after spending three years at Tennessee.
• Illinois center Josh Kreutz, the son of former Bears center Olin Kreutz, accepted a rookie minicamp invite.
• Georgia long snapper Beau Gardner is headed to rookie minicamp, per the Athens Banner-Herald.
• James Madison offensive tackle Pat McMurtrie accepted a rookie minicamp invite.
For the first time in a long time, the Bears are floating on smoother seas than the Lions, Packers and Vikings.
