Tight end Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs just wrapped up a definitive win against the Washington Commanders at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, October 27, and they did it under the bright lights of Monday Night Football. Kansas City towered over the Commanders with a 28-7 final score and walked out of the game with their fifth win of the season and a 5-3 record going into Week 9.
Monday’s game was a big one for Kelce. He notched his 83rd career touchdown, according to the NFL, taking the Kansas City Chiefs’ lead to 21-7 with 3:21 left in the third quarter. Doing so, he tied Priest Holmes for the most regular-season touchdowns in Kansas City Chiefs history. According to NFL research, he also registered his 80th receiving touchdown, something only Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez have done before him.
Counting the postseason, Kelce also scored his 100th touchdown, so it was a huge night for him. After making that final touchdown that put him over the edge, he paid special tribute to his lady, Taylor Swift.
Travis Kelce Does Something Special for Taylor Swift
After scoring that touchdown, Kelce celebrated the occasion by jumping up and down and performing part of the Taylor Swift “Fate of Ophelia” dance that she did in the song’s popular music video, moving his arms up and down and swaying.
He’s relishing in moments like these. “I’m putting on the pads like I’m 15 years old again,” he said in a post-game interview with SportsCenter. “I’m loving every single bit of it.”
Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Gives Props to Travis Kelce
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gave props to Kelce after the win. “He’s the true Chiefs Chief,” Patrick Mahomes said after the win, according to the NFL. “He is the guy that has been here through the whole thing. Been here with (head) coach (Andy) Reid the entire time. He has helped set the culture, you know? He helped set the culture of what it means to play for Coach Reid and to play in Kansas City and I was able to come in and then have that guy to rely on.”
Mahomes added, “He’s breaking all the records now and he’s all about the team, so I want to make sure that he gets that and hopefully we can get another football for him later in the season after he actually breaks the record (most in Chiefs history).”
“Fate of Ophelia,” of course, is part of Swift’s new album, “Life of a Showgirl.” When the release arrived on Oct. 3, Rolling Stone said of the set, “Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ combines new, exciting sonic turns with incisive storytelling. On her 12th studio album, Swift hits all her marks — from new, exciting sonic turns to incisive storytelling.”
Pitchfork added in their review that while much of the album “sounds like much of the pop music you have heard over the past 10 years and throughout your lifetime; it asks that this time, you listen more closely, because this is Taylor Swift, with the enormity of commercial power and cultural significance and algorithmic rank that implies.”
So, Kelce honored his soon-to-be-wife during his special moment on the field. This is certainly a match made in NFL heaven.
