Trevon Diggs News Emerges Before Cowboys-Vikings Game

At this point, it’s time to accept there’s a chance we may have seen the last of cornerback Trevon Diggs in a Dallas Cowboys uniform.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz broke the news on Saturday, December 13, that Diggs, a former NFL All-Pro, won’t play in a critical Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings as the Cowboys’ playoff hopes hang in the balance.

The Cowboys are 6-6-1 and currently in second place in the NFC East Division behind the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

“Sources: Cowboys All-Pro CB Trevon Diggs will not play Sunday vs the Vikings,” Schultz wrote on X on Saturday, December 13. “This comes after what was described to me as a ‘great week of practice,’ while multiple sources tell me the relationship between Diggs and the organization has ‘soured’ and ‘been severed.’ Diggs, who last played Week 6 and has already been activated from IR, told reporters this week that he was ‘ready.’ ”

Diggs being ready or not seems inconsequential to whether or not Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer feels like he should step on the field. Diggs was on injured reserve and his practice window closes on December 21 so a decision on his status is coming up within a week.

Diggs is playing on a 5-year, $97 million contract extension he signed before the 2023 season.

“In my humble and non-professional opinion, Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs is moving around well in practice and looks healthy,” Dallas Morning News reporter Joseph Hoyt wrote on X. “Diggs’ practice window closes next Sunday Dec. 21.”

Mystery Surrounds Diggs’ Current Absence

One of the more confounding things about Diggs is that his current absence has never been properly explained.

Few details are known about what happened to Diggs in October other than he suffered an apparent concussion at his home. The details of the incident have yet to be fully revealed.

“Trevon Diggs had an incident at his home last night that has landed him in the concussion protocol and will miss Sunday’s game against Washington,” ESPN’s Todd Archer wrote on X on Friday, October 17.

In health terms, Diggs seemed to be cruising along this season before the concussion. He’d played in all 6 games for the Cowboys after missing 32 regular season games since 2022 due to injuries.

From Heavy.com’s Jonathan Vankin: “Coach Brian Schottenheimer said that he did not know what caused the ;accident’ that resulted in the concussion, but with so little information available, even calling whatever happened an ‘accident’ seems to involve some possibly unwarranted assumptions.”
