Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Dec. 15-20.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

Bella Alpert, Northgate soccer: The freshman scored four goals in Northgate’s 11-2 win over Wood. 

Mia Borja, Alameda basketball: Borja scored 17 points to lead Alameda to a 77-23 win over St. Joseph Notre Dame. 

Edeel Hersi, Deer Valley basketball: Hersi scored 21 points in Deer Valley’s 54-31 win over Napa. 

Kayla Lichaa, San Mateo basketball: Lichaa scored four goals to lead San Mateo to a 4-0 win over El Camino. 

Briana Lopez, Kennedy-Fremont soccer: Lopez scored four goals and dished out an assist in Kennedy’s 10-0 win over Irvington. 

Natalie Perkins, Cupertino basketball: Perkins scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in Cupertino’s 45-32 win over Westmont. 

Emma Sevounts, Leigh soccer: Sevounts scored a goal to lead Leigh to a 2-1 win over Hillsdale. 

Rhiannon Stewart, Livermore soccer: Stewart scored two goals to lead Livermore to a 3-0 win over Kimball. 

Layla Tucakovic, Archbishop Mitty soccer: The junior goalie had three saves in Mitty’s 1-0 win over Mountain View. 

Chiemi Wong, Gunderson basketball: Wong scored 16 points in Gunderson’s 45-32 win over Leadership.
