White Sox seemingly try to make Guardians sad, sleepy with workout music playlist

The White Sox didn’t exactly play workout music during the Guardians’ workout Tuesday at Rate Field.

Seemingly trying to play mind games with their playoff opponent, Sox’ crack music staff played sad, slow and sleepy tunes as the Guardians prepared for Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday (3 p.m., TBS, truTV, 1000-AM).

The playlist began, appropriately, with Boyz II Men’s “End Of The Road.” The Guardians trail the best-of-five series 2-0. It continued with The Sundays’ “Here’s Where the Story Ends,” Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” and R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.”

The playlist shifted to the soothing sounds of Savage Garden’s “Truly Madly Deeply,” Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” and the Cranberries’ “Linger.” The songs then were accompanied by Sox season highlights on the center-field video board. It was practically sensory overload for the poor Guardians.

The Sox also played the Crash Test Dummies’ “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm,” Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight,” Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me” and Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars.”

It wasn’t the first time the Sox tried messing with a Cleveland team. In April 2002, the stadium music director greeted Cleveland pitcher Chuck Finley with Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again,” a reference to Finley’s divorce from actress Tawny Kitaen, who starred in the rock group’s videos. The Sox fired the director the next day.
