Last summer, Fredrik Eklund of Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing” fame hinted that a record-breaking deal was in play for his new Orange County-based Eklund | Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman.

The team just closed that “deal.”

Nestled above Dana Point’s beachfront, the $23.55 million mansion is the priciest home sale in the guard-gated community The Strand at Headlands. The 8,900-square-foot home boasts contemporary Balinese-inspired interiors, an infinity pool and front-row coastline views to Catalina.

Third-party listing sites like Realtor.com show the property sat on and off the market for more than a few years before it finally changed hands for only the second time since it was completed in 2009. The home last sold in 2013 for $22.25 million, property records show. In May 2017, it was listed for just shy of $30 million.

After a few price adjustments, it settled at $25.9 million.

The home sold Friday, Feb. 19 to a San Juan Capistrano buyer, one of two offers in the last six months.

“Although it was a local buyer, O.C. is drawing international attention and a lot of people are moving down from San Francisco and Los Angeles,” Eklund said. “In 2020, the world changed dramatically. Now most employers of finance and tech are saying you can live anywhere you want. Enjoy life. Buy the lifestyle you’ve always dreamed about.”

Leave it to the celebrity real estate agent to show them how.

Eklund put a spotlight on the Dana Point property during a fun (and frankly, educational) episode of his YouTube Channel kids video series, “Milla and Freddy’s Adventures,” co-starring his toddler twins.

They danced around the pool, decorated cookies in the kitchen and counted the number of surfers in the water below.

The photogenic nature of properties like this one makes it ideal for pandemic-style house hunting. It was also shown to potential buyers via Instagram and Zoom.

“Social media was a guilty pleasure before Covid,” Eklund said. “Now, this is how we sell trophy properties like this. This particular property, …read more
