According to Fox News, Princess Charlotte’s presence marked her first international soccer game, appearing alongside her father, the Prince of Wales, 43, who attended in his official capacity as patron of the Football Association, the governing body of English soccer.

The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a snapshot of the father-daughter duo at the match, captioning the post, “Let’s go, @lionesses! 🏴.” Fans quickly flooded the comments with enthusiasm, with one writing, “Little Princess Diana ❤️” and another adding, “Charlotte takes after her dad so much! The genes are strong ❤️ Looks like a lovely day—go Lionesses!”

William has been a visible supporter of the squad throughout this year’s tournament, previously visiting the team at St. George’s Park before their departure and attending their July 9 match against the Netherlands.

The Royal Family’s Love of Soccer

Prince William and Princess Charlotte’s high-profile appearance comes during the royal family’s unofficial summer break. William’s three children—Prince George, 12; Princess Charlotte, 10; and Prince Louis, 7—are currently out of school on vacation.

William and Kate Middleton traditionally scale back royal duties during school holidays to prioritize family time, with even King Charles adopting a lighter schedule from late July through August, per People. Middleton has made only a few public appearances since courageously announcing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024

Soccer fandom runs deep in the Wales household. William has long been known for his love of the sport and served as President-Designate of the Football Association before becoming patron in 2024. His children have also shown enthusiasm for the game. During the Euro 2024 final, Prince George joined William in person to cheer on England, while Charlotte and Louis showed their support from home in customized England jerseys.

This month’s visit to Switzerland follows another recent family outing to the Wimbledon Championships in London, where William and Kate brought George and Charlotte to watch the gentlemen’s singles final from the Royal Box on July 13.

William and Charlotte have also publicly shown support for England’s national soccer teams before, previously sharing messages of encouragement to players via social media.
