Phylicia Rashad Honors Malcolm-Jamal Warner With Emotional Tribute at 2025 Emmys
Malcolm-Jamal Warner was remembered at the 2025 Emmy Awards in a moving moment led by his longtime TV mom, Phylicia Rashad.
Rashad, who starred as Clair Huxtable on âThe Cosby Showâ, opened the In Memoriam segment by paying tribute to Warner, who played her son Theo throughout the seriesâ eight-season run. âHe was a beloved teenager in an iconic television series who the world watched grow into manhood,â she said. âLike all our friends and colleagues who transitioned this past year, Malcolm-Jamal Warner remains in our hearts.â
She continued, âWe remember them not just for their immense talent, but also for the way they made us believe in something bigger â the best that is within us. Even though they may no longer be here with us, we can all smile, knowing their impact will remain, knowing that their lasting impressions will continue to live on through story, knowing that they touched our lives.â

Just days before the Emmys, Warnerâs wife, Tenisha Warner, reportedly shared her own tribute on Instagram as the coupleâs anniversary approached. âI can still hear my husbandâs laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me â every tear, every dream,â she wrote.
She also announced the launch of River & Ember and the Warner Family Foundation in his honor, organizations focused on nurturing childrenâs creativity and supporting young artists.
At the Emmys, Rashadâs tribute captured what Warner meant to audiences and colleagues alike: not just an actor who grew up on screen, but a performer whose impact and spirit will remain woven into television history.
