New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing serious criminal charges.
Boston 25 reports that Diggs is being charged with “felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an incident on Tuesday, Dec. 2, court documents show.” The incident reportedly occurred a day after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants.
The outlet added that the receiver’s attorney appeared in court remotely in Dedham on Tuesday, looking to “have the police report impounded, arguing that the details should remain sealed.”
Diggs lawyer, Michael DiStefano, also noted that Diggs “made a financial offer to resolve the dispute with the alleged victim in this case.”
“As we speak, they’re working to come to an agreement on that,” DiStefano said, with the judge saying she will take this request under advisement, according to Boston 25.
According to court documents, Diggs’ court session began at 11 a.m. today. He is now set to be arraigned on Friday, Jan. 23, which is just two days before the AFC Championship game, Boston 25.

The Patriots have released a statement following news of these charges against Diggs.
“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” the organization said (per ESPN’s Mike Reiss).
