Blue Jays Eyed as a Top MLB Team to Poach Projected $401 Million Slugger

The Toronto Blue Jays narrowly missed winning the World Series, and now the team is being linked to potentially making a big splash in ongoing MLB rumors. With Bo Bichette’s future yet to be decided, there is an All-Star slugger who is being floated as a potential fit for the Blue Jays.

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter outlined the biggest need for every MLB team. Toronto is being pushed to make a run at a left-handed power hitter with Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker floated as the team’s “logical target.”

“The Blue Jays have had a right-handed heavy lineup for some time now, and while the emergence of Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes has provided more balance and Daulton Varsho continues to be a good source of power, they are still lacking a true middle-of-the-order run producer from the left side,” Reuter detailed in a December 29, 2025, story titled, “Every MLB Team’s Biggest Remaining Roster Hole Entering the New Year.”

“Slotting Kyle Tucker or Cody Bellinger in behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the cleanup spot would be huge.”

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Blue Jays rumors.

Cubs OF Kyle Tucker Is Projected to Land a Massive $401 Million Contract

Toronto needds to be prepared to pay a premium for the Blue Jays to have a chance at landing Tucker. Spotrac projects Tucker’s market value to be a 10-year, $401 million contract.

There appears to at least be some smoke about the Blue Jays’ interest in Tucker. The star visited the club’s facility in Florida amid the team’s interest in landing the prized free agent.

“Ultimately, though, landing a free agent of Tucker’s calibre will come down to money, not fresh facilities and new hitting labs,” The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon and Ken Rosenthal wrote in a December 3, story titled, “Free-agent All-Star OF Kyle Tucker visited Blue Jays’ Florida complex: Source.” “After agreeing to two of free agency’s biggest contracts so far this offseason, signing Tucker would require an even bigger commitment.

“As the Jays still linger in the market for infielder Bo Bichette and seek an addition at the back of the bullpen, their interest in free agency’s biggest target is now evident.”

Blue Jays Predicted to Poach Cubs Star Kyle Tucker

Tucker is widely considered the best free agent this offseason and remains unsigned. The slugger has been named an All-Star in four straight seasons.

Tucker hit .266 with 22 home runs, 73 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 136 appearances for the Cubs in 2025. CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson predicts the Blue Jays will seal the deal and land Tucker amid all the chatter about the mutual interest between the two parties.

“Tucker, the top talent in the class, is good at everything but not necessarily great at anything,” Anderson explained in a December 30, article tilted, “Predicting landing spots for the top 10 remaining MLB free agents: Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman and more.” “That puts him on a lower level than the superstars who have headlined recent offseasons, like Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, and Aaron Judge.

“Nonetheless, Tucker is an All-Star player who should find a new home over the coming weeks. He’s been tied to the Blue Jays a lot this winter, and they continue to seem like the cleanest fit since he can serve as both an upgrade over Nathan Lukes and insurance against Anthony Santander failing to rebound.”
