For more than two decades, Carol Kirkwood became a trusted voice for viewers, guiding them through everything from bright summer mornings to stormy winter days. Now, she is saying goodbye.
Kirkwood has signed off from “BBC Breakfast,” bringing her 28-year run to a close with an emotional farewell that marked the end of an era.
The longtime award-winning weather presenter, who first announced her departure in January, appeared on the show one final time, closing a chapter that made her a familiar and comforting presence in homes across the U.K.
âThank You for Trusting Meâ: Kirkwood Shares Heartfelt Message
Surrounded by her colleagues, Kirkwood addressed viewers directly in a moving sign-off.
Getty“Thank you for trusting me, be it telling you about heatwaves or snow, from big national events to the everyday question of ‘do I need to take a brolly?’ You’ve been the constant in all of this, and I’ve never taken that for granted.
“To my colleagues past and present, both in front and behind the camera⦠I owe you all so much. You’ve been my team, my safety net, and, very often, my family.”
She reflected on the moments she shared with her team, both on- and off-screen.
“breaking news, long shifts, plenty of laughter, bad hair days, and the occasional moment of pure chaos,” she said, adding that she “wouldn’t change a second of it”.
Looking Ahead to a New Chapter
In an emotional goodbye message, Kirkwood said the role had given her far more than a career, describing it as a chapter filled with lasting memories and deep personal connections.
“This job has given me so much more than a career; it’s given me memories,” she said. “I’ll carry them forever. Friendships I treasure deeply and a front-row seat to the incredible, unpredictable beauty of our weather. A subject I still love.”
While she acknowledged she does not yet know exactly what comes next, Kirkwood said she is ready to step into a new phase of life, including spending more time with her husband.
“I don’t have a detailed forecast about what comes next,” she said, adding that she is looking forward to “perhaps the luxury of watching the weather instead of presenting it”.
Growing emotional as the moment came to a close, she shared one final message with viewers. “Thank you for letting me be part of your lives.”
Emotional Tributes Pour In From Colleagues and Public Figures

Kirkwood described the outpouring of support as âbeautiful messages,â reflecting the bond she built with colleagues and viewers over the years.
