Tate Modern evacuated and Millennium Bridge closed after ‘suspicious package’ found

The Tate Modern has been evacuated after an undisclosed incident this afternoon, with police, fire and ambulance crews on scene.

The Tate Modern told Metro that the building has been evacuated. A source told Metro on background that the Tate Modern and the nearby Millennium Bridge were evacuated as a precaution after a suspicious package was found.

The cordon has since been lifted, but it remains unclear when the museum will reopen.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: ‘Firefighters have been called to assist police at an incident on Bankside.

‘The Brigade was called at 1130. Two fire engines from Dowgate and Soho fire stations are at the scene.’
