3 dead, 1 in critical condition in West Garfield Park shooting

Three people were killed and one was left in critical condition Friday evening after a shooting in West Garfield Park, police said.

The four people were on a sidewalk about 4:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Maypole Avenue when someone in a car drove up to them, Chicago police said. At least two people exited the vehicle and fired at the group.

A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. A 32-year-old woman was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Another man, whose age wasn’t known, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

The fourth victim, a 35-year-old man, was shot multiple times and was listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

An hour after the shooting, police appeared to be focused on Gotcha Faded, a barbershop near that location. Officers went in and out of the storefront, and officers guarded the entrance. Traffic was blocked on Pulaski Road, between Maypole Avenue and Lake Street.

Several neighbors gathered near the scene, some hugging each other and crying, and declined to speak.

Area Four Detectives are investigating.
