After nearly three months since Nancy Guthrie went missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1, the FBI has received and is analyzing potentially critical DNA recovered from Nancyâs home, ABC News reported.
A source close to the investigation told ABC News that a private lab in Florida working alongside the Pima County Sheriffâs Department sent the DNA sample to the FBI within recent days to be identified.
DNA Sample Could Take 6 Months to Identify
According to the source, the FBI is using newly advanced technology to conduct their analysis of the DNA sample to match it to Nancyâs kidnapper, hopefully.
ABC News reported that Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently confirmed to a Neighborhood Watch group that analyzing the sample could take more than six months to untangle and isolate the strands from what investigators actually need.Â
Sheriff Nanos also noted that at least five other professional labs around the country are actively working on the Guthrie case as they investigate key evidence.
Although itâs been 10 weeks and counting since Nancy was abducted, two dozen FBI and Pima County investigators are working on narrowing down the search for who broke into her home in the middle of the night.
News of the FBI looking into a critical DNA sample from Nancyâs house comes about one week after TMZ reportedly received two more ransom demands.
The sender, who has contacted TMZ on several different occasions via email, told the outlet in his letters that he saw Nancy with her kidnapper in Mexico.
Ransom Demand Claims Nancy Guthrie Was Held in Mexico
âI Saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora Mexico,â the ransom demand writer stated in their letter, according to TMZ. The writer also described Nancyâs abduction as a âhorrific crime.â Not only that, but he also claimed that the 84-year-old is not alive at this time.
Despite Nancyâs disappearance, her daughter Savannah Guthrie made a triumphant return to the âTODAYâ show on April 6. While sheâs kept her composure, fellow morning show hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager shared how inspiring it is to see Savannahâs remarkable strength.
Hoda held back tears when talking with reporters at a red carpet event on April 14 as she explained how witnessing Savannah manage her pain so quietly is a rare ability that sheâs never seen before, noting that she feels âprivilegedâ to be able to support her.
