Reese Witherspoon is doubling down on her decision to learn “as much as possible” about AI after receiving backlash for her stance.

Reese Witherspoon Defends AI Opinions

The “Sweet Home Alabama” actress took to social media on Monday, April 20, to reiterate her desire to learn the newest technologies.

“Well, I guess my Al post got people talking. To be clear, no one is paying me to talk about this. I’m just a curious human,” she wrote via her Instagram Story over a selfie. “My kids are learning about AI tools. I know a lot of founders who are vibe coding, and I hear about people using AI in EVERY sector of business.”

She continued, “But I want to acknowledge people’s concerns, they are valid. I’m aware of the impact this could have on jobs across so many industries. I understand environmental concerns. I care deeply about local communities. And I have concerns about impending AGI.”

Witherspoon went on to explain her concerns, including AI technologies replacing humans in the workforce.

“I don’t believe computers should replace humanity. I’m planning on learning as much as possible so that I’m educated about this technological revolution,” she said. “If you want to learn with me, great, let’s do this! If you don’t, that’s okay too.”

The actress’s remarks come days after she opened up about her desire to “keep up” with the ever-changing technology.

“Well…I’ve decided it’s TIME for me to learn more. The AI revolution has begun, and I need to learn as much as I possibly can about AI and share it with all of you,” she captioned her April 16 video post.

Sandra Bullock Agrees

The “Legally Blonde” star isn’t the only Hollywood A-list actress who is hoping to stay up-to-date on the AI boom. Sandra Bullock revealed her stance during the CNBC Changemakers Summit.

“It’s here. We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it,” Bullock said on April 17, in conversation with Warner Bros. Pictures co-chair and CEO Pam Abdy, according to Variety. “We have to use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend rather than — I mean, we have to be incredibly cautious and aware of it because there are people who will use it for evil and not good. But I do feel that there’s a place for it… It’s here. We have to just be friends in some dark way.”
