Hosted by Karan Johar, The Traitors India features 20 celebrities, including Anshula Kapoor, Apoorva, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi and Harsh Gujral.
Instead of the game taking place against the backdrop of a Scottish castle, this season was filmed in and around Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer, also known as The Golden City.
One review of the Indian version of the show called it ‘gritty, glamorous and full of plot twists’.
‘Visually, The Traitors is a treat. The palace drips in grandeur, gold bricks gleam under candlelight and every scene looks like it was pulled from a royal thriller. This is not just about winning money. It’s about surviving mind games, building shaky alliances and dodging betrayals. If you’re into reality shows with twists, high drama, clever gameplay and just the right amount of hot pepper, The Traitors is your next binge,’ Rediff wrote in its review.
‘If you’re a fan of reality TV, a sucker for twists, or just eager to see your favourite celebrities in a whole new avatar, The Traitors could be a way to quench your thirst for drama,’ India Today declared.
‘Karan Johar’s The Traitors India deserves a clap for making it worth watching, engaging, and addictive. As the episodes unfolded, we wanted more of it,’ OTT Play shared.
‘Let’s be honest, this isn’t peak psychological drama. But it is fun. The Traitors wins by being unapologetically over-the-top. It’s reality TV that knows it’s ridiculous, and revels in it,’ FilmFare added.
Meanwhile viewers called it ‘awesome’, ‘gripping and dramatic’, and ‘over the top in the best way’.
As the teaser for the series shares with viewers: ‘Betrayal is everywhere. Karan Johar throws open the doors of an opulent palace for the ultimate reality game of trust and treachery. Let the mind games begin.’
A second season of The Traitors India is also currently in production.
Meanwhile last month the BBC confirmed The Traitors and Celebrity Traitors UK would continue to run for at least the next four years.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, an official announcement about the show promised ‘even more twists, turns, secrets, epic missions, deception, banishments and, of course, murders aplenty from the now iconic Ardross Castle’.
Described as a ‘landmark deal’, it also includes a continued BBC agreement to host the international versions of the betrayal game, including those from the US, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
It comes after Celebrity Traitors raked in a peak viewership of 15.4 million for the finale, making it the most-watched series of 2025.
The Traitors India will start next Thursday, April 30, at 9pm on BBC One. It will also be streaming on BBC iPlayer.
