Donald Trump has backed plans to call ICE agents NICE agents in a ‘cynical’ rebrand of the controversial agency that has shot dead Americans and split up families.

In a Truth Social post, the US President shared a post on X in which someone had written, ‘I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday.’

‘GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT. President DJT’ Trump wrote on the Truth Social post.

But Ilhan Omar, hit back: ‘A rebrand won’t distract us from the truth: this reprehensible agency murdered two Minnesotans in broad daylight. Abolish ICE.’

The original poster MAGA ‘journalist’ Alyssa Marie said: ‘You mean abolish NICE? Who would want to abolish NICE? That doesn’t poll well.’

She even drew up AI plans for the uniforms.

In January, the killings of two American citizens by immigration officers led to fears over the government’s heavy-handed tactics. In the weeks that followed, ICE arrests across the country dropped on average by nearly 12%.

Polling has found the general public felt the immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota went too far, a factor that may have contributed to the abrupt firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in early March.

Gregory Bovino, who swaggered through raid scenes in tactical gear and was the public face of the Trump administration crackdown, was pushed aside following the killings in Minneapolis of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

The ICE agent who killed Renee Nicole Good is set to become a millionaire after controversial fundraisers were set up for him.

Good, a mother-of-three and a US citizen, was shot dead by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan ‘Jon’ Ross last week.

Her death, which was captured on video, sparked widespread protests across the US criticising police brutality.

It also flared up tensions between the country’s political factions, with many in Donald Trump’s administration defending the ICE agent.

Good’s parents and her siblings issued a tribute to her, saying she was a ‘beautiful light’ who brought ‘joy.’

The family said in a statement: ‘We want to thank everyone who has reached out in support of Renee and our family. The kind of unending care we’ve been given during this time is exactly the kind that she gave to everyone.’
