The mother of Golders Green stab victim Shloime Rand today described how the ‘gentle soul’ was still in hospital recovering from a wound to the chest.

He described how Jewish friends had alerted her with a phone call no parent ever wants to receive.

She told Metro she had been at her son’s bedside and that he had been attacked while in Golders Green to attend a religious studies class.

She said: ‘Some Jewish friends rang me not the police. My son was in the area for religious studies. He was attacked for no reason. He was stabbed in the chest and is still in hospital.

‘He is talking and we are hoping he is going to be ok. He is a gentle soul has time for everyone. The man who did this is a criminal who needs to face justice for what he did.’

‘She said she had been holding a bedside vigil for her son and was hopeful he would not require surgery.’

She added: ‘The Jewish community needs more protection for the danger we face.’

Mr Rand told ITV yesterday: ‘People are really afraid, people are uncomfortable walking in the streets.

‘People are blaming obviously the Government. You know they aren’t doing anything about what’s going on for the past few months.’

A further £25 million will be invested to increase security for Jewish communities following calls for urgent action and accusations the Government has not done enough to tackle antisemitism.

The funding will be aimed at boosting police patrols and protections around synagogues, schools and community centres.

Legislation creating proscription-like powers to pursue people and organisations acting on behalf of malign state-sponsored groups will also be ‘fast-tracked’ in the coming weeks, ministers said.

Home secretary Shabana Mahmood said she is treating the attacks ‘as an emergency’.

She signalled she would consider banning the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an Iranian military group, as she faced questions about the new laws.
