Dannielynn Birkhead Mirrors Her Late Mother Anna Nicole Smith During Rare Red Carpet Appearance 

Dannielynn Birkhead is once again honoring her late mother, Anna Nicole Smith, in a way that feels both personal and powerful.

The 19-year-old stepped out alongside her father, Larry Birkhead, for their annual appearance at the Barnstable-Brown Gala in Louisville, Kentucky, ahead of the Kentucky Derby.

Dannielynn Rocked the Look

The event has become something of a tradition for the father-daughter duo—and this year’s appearance had fans doing a double take.

Dannielynn debuted a fresh hairstyle paired with a bold “goth-rock” look, wearing a dress from Punk Rave Clothing that added an edgy twist to the glamorous evening. 

Larry shared photos from the night on Instagram, capturing the pair smiling on the red carpet as well as a close-up of his daughter’s updated style.

“Another year, another Barnstable-Brown Gala for the @Kentuckyderby weekend,” he wrote. “Dannielynn is rocking a fresh cut and ‘goth-rock’ style with her @punkraveclothing dress.”

He also revealed that his daughter encouraged him to get in on the theme. 

“She insisted I get in on the theme with my Philipp Plein jacket. Looking forward to a great time for a great cause,” he added.

The rare public outing quickly drew attention, with fans flooding the comments to share their admiration—not just for Dannielynn’s look, but for the bond she shares with her father.

“I always look forward to seeing them at the Derby. Loved Anna Nicole. He’s a great dad,” one person wrote.

Another added, “He turned out to be a really good dad. He always takes his daughter to the Derby. It’s so sweet.”

Many couldn’t help but note the striking resemblance between Dannielynn and her late mother, who passed away in 2007. 

“Danilynn is all grown up. Anna Nicole is smiling in Heaven,” one fan commented, while another wrote, “He should be so proud of himself for raising a beautiful daughter with such grace.”

Birkhead Spoke About How Dannielynn Is Finding Herself

Birkhead spoke with PEOPLE during the event and noted how his daughter is finding her own sense of style. 

“This year is a different style for Dannielynn,” he said. “People [are] always looking for her to wear something of her mom. And she’s done that a couple times, but this is kind of Dannielynn showing off her own sense of style and she said it’s a goth rock theme.”

Dannielynn shared a similar sentiment while’s speaking with Access Hollywood. She said that while she loves her mom and noted on her beauty, she wanted people to know that she is “also my own person.”

The Barnstable-Brown Gala—and the Kentucky Derby weekend more broadly—has long held special meaning for the family. 

Over the years, the pair has made it a point to attend together, quietly keeping Anna Nicole’s memory alive through tradition and style.

Last Year She Wore Her Mom’s Dress

Last year’s appearance carried even deeper emotional significance.

Dannielynn wore one of her mother’s dresses to the same event—an iconic look that Anna Nicole herself had worn 21 years earlier.

Speaking to Access Hollywood at the time, Dannielynn shared just how much that moment meant to her.

“This is the closest to a hug I can get from her,” she said.

Larry echoed that sentiment in a social media post, writing, “Life full circle,” and revealing that his daughter chose the dress because it was her mom’s and “super cool.”

While Dannielynn has largely grown up outside of the spotlight, these occasional appearances offer a glimpse into how she continues to honor her mother’s legacy—while also carving out her own identity.
