When it comes to a beloved Netflix show finally coming to an end, diehard fans of the series are likely to share their fury online.

Think of the cancellation of Outer Banks, which left viewers ‘feeling so broken’, or the end of the adult animated series Arcane, that fans said was ‘one of the best series ever’ – emotions can certainly run high.

But following the announcement that The Night Agent is officially ending after its fourth season, viewers are demanding that one ‘irreplaceable’ character returns.

For those who haven’t watched the thriller yet, the series follows FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who finds himself plunged into a vast conspiracy about a mole in the United States government.

To save the nation, he must find the traitor, while also protecting former tech CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) from the people who murdered her family.

Despite being a main character in the first two seasons of the show, Rose did not return for season three as the storyline shifted to follow Peter’s new journey as the characters went their separate ways.

Now, as the show has confirmed it is ending after a fourth season, viewers are hoping that the cybersecurity expert can rekindle her romance with Peter.

Taking to X, Monisse declared: ‘The only acceptable way to end the night agent is to bring Rose back to Peter. Nothing else will make the fans happy.’

Giselle similarly stated: ‘They better bring back Rose one way or another The Night Agent cannot end without Peter and her being endgame pls!’

Chantelle also said: ‘NOOOO, Rose better at least return for the last season her and Peter’s relationship made the show.’

Meanwhile, Anji argued that Rose’s absence from season 3 coincided with the show being cancelled after season 4.

‘To be honest I’m not surprised at all,’ he said. ‘And I haven’t read if Rose is going to comeback so far. We deserve financial compensation for the emotional damage of not getting Rose Larkin.

‘Nobody, I mean nobody, can replace Rose. She risked her life for you, Peter.

Discussing the show coming to end, many viewers claimed that they were ‘not ready to say goodbye’, however, others felt that it was the ‘right time to close the story’ as Paul wrote: ‘They are beginning to lose the plot. It’s time to wrap it up.’

Tami also added: ‘Respect to the creators for knowing when to close the story.’

The news of its cancellation comes after it was revealed that The Night Agent was one of Netflix’s most-watched shows last year.

A staggering 812 million hours were consumed of the first season between its release on March 23 and the end of June in 2024, making it the streamer’s biggest success story in their first public content review.

Commenting on the fourth and final season, the show’s creator Shawn Ryan told Variety: ‘Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I’ve been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland’s journey.

‘I’m so grateful to Netflix and Sony Pictures Television for partnering with me on The Night Agent and for giving us the space to deliver a definitive final season to our worldwide legion of fans.

‘We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget.’

The Night Agent’s first season is available to stream on Netflix.
