Ricky Martin has been declared ‘safe’ after someone let off tear gas at one of his concerts.
Last night the Puerto Rican singer, 54, was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour in Montenegro when someone sprayed tear gas toward the stage.
In a statement shared in both Spanish and English by his publicist Róndine Alcalá, it was explained that the performance was paused after ‘an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance’.
According to the publicist, the singer and his team immediately left the stage as a ‘precautionary measure’, while ‘security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance’.
Although some of his team advised Martin to cancel the concert, Alcalá said he decided to continue ‘in order to fulfil his commitment to fans’.
By that point, authorities had confirmed that ‘the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return’.
The statement also confirmed that the Ricky Martin Live tour would continue as scheduled with upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates.
‘Ricky Martin and his team are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro,’ the statement concluded.
Responding to the post, one fan commented: ‘We were there. Thanks Ricky and his team for everything, they are all professionals. We very enjoyed the concert.’
Another added: ‘Such sad news. And many thanks to @ricky_martin and their team for continuing the show despite everything. Thank you @rondenepr for the information.’
The singer is yet to publicly comment on the incident.
Martin’s next stop on the tour isn’t until next month, when he plays in Moldova on June 12.
This morning it was announced that he’d be playing his first show in the UK in a decade this summer – with a one-off performance at Norfolk’s Sandringham Estate.
The concert on August 22 is part of the HeritageLive Festival, which runs from August 19 to 23 and also features Lionel Richie and Eric Clapton as headliners.
Martin will be joined by special guests the Sugababes, Olly Alexander, and rising star Sophie Castillo.
‘We’re so excited to have Ricky Martin perform as part of our 2026 line-up,’ HeritageLive Festival’s Giles Cooper said, as per Eastern Daily Press.
‘At HeritageLive, we’ve always aimed to bring the very biggest names to the stage across a wide range of genres, and this show is a perfect example of that.
‘The rise of Latin music as a global force has been phenomenal, and we’re thrilled to welcome one of the true pioneers who helped bring it to a massive international audience. It’s set to be an incredible party for our Saturday night at Sandringham.’
Martin, who has sold more than 70 million records worldwide, is known for hit songs including Livin’ La Vida Loca, She Bangs, and The Cup of Life.
Throughout his career, he’s had 11 Billboard Hot Latin Songs number-one songs, and won two Grammy Awards, five Latin Grammy Awards, six MTV Video Music Awards, two American Music Awards, three Latin American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and nine Billboard Latin Music Awards.
